Tech Shares Lead Asia Markets Lower

Asian stock markets hit session lows in afternoon trading Wednesday, shedding gains from earlier in the week, as technology shares continued a global slump.

The Nikkei Stock Average was recently down 2%, erasing much of Tuesday’s 2.7% gain. SoftBank Group 9984 -4.24% slid 3.8% and Tokyo Electron 8035 -4.78% dropped 3% even as the yen reversed some of its strengthening from Tuesday’s U.S. trading day.

Several regional stock indexes, including tech-heavy benchmarks in South Korea and Taiwan, were down at least 1%. In Hong Kong, Tencent Holdings TCEHY -2.91% lost 3.5%, while smartphone-component suppliers AAC Technologies and Sunny Optical each fell at least 5%.

Orbitz Discloses Possible Data Breach Affecting 880,000 Payment Cards

Expedia Inc.’s EXPE -0.63% Orbitz subsidiary disclosed Tuesday it has discovered a possible data breach affecting thousands of customers on one of its older sites and an unnamed partner platform.

The breach is estimated to have affected about 880,000 payment cards.

The travel-booking site operator said that during an investigation of an older Orbitz platform it found that a hacker may have accessed consumer data late last year and it is working to notify those who may be affected. The breach didn’t affect the new Orbitz.com, the company said.

The hacker could have had access to data on purchases made between January 2016 and December of last year, including birthdays, addresses, full names and payment card information...

Apple to Acquire Digital-Magazine-Subscription Service Texture

Apple Inc. AAPL 1.01% said it will acquire Next Issue Media LLC and its digital-magazine-subscription service Texture, a product developed by top magazine companies that bundles together some 200 subscriptions into one monthly service.

The acquisition comes as Apple looks to beef up its services business, which includes its music-streaming service and its mobile-payments service.

Apple has set a goal of increasing total revenue from services to more than $40 billion by 2020. The company generated nearly $30 billion in services revenue in its fiscal year ended in September.

Apple typically takes a 15% cut of subscription services from publishers and content providers, including Netflix Inc. and HBO, if those subscriptions are purchased through the App Store.

Kyle Larson won the Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, his first NASCAR victory at the 1.5-mile speedway.

Larson led five times for a race-high 142 laps Saturday.
